MED INF 408 Acquisition and Assessment
A practical course on acquiring and assessing new medical technology, either as a vendor who needs to know how to meet the expectations of customers and their acquisition requirements or as a customer/practitioner who must know how to validate technology selections and implementations. Topics include cost analysis and justification, economic models, capital purchase, leasing strategies, the application service provider or risk-sharing model, purchase agreements and contracts, writing an RFP, analyzing a RFP response, and the industry business trends Reflection This course was in direct correlation with my work. As a vendor, we receive many request for proposals (RFP) and request for information (RFI). I have always been on the receiving end and participated in answering many of these over the years in my career. They are no fun. What I didn’t realize was how much work was involved in the research and design of an RFP. Some of the goals of the course were to explore and evaluate different vendors for selection, examine the roles of different stakeholders involved in the process of writing the RFP and analyze legal and ethical issues involved in contract negotiations. Our team project was to create a Statement of Work (SOW), write an RFP and answer the RFP after doing research for selecting a learning management system (LMS). The process is long and tedious and one I can now appreciate. I received an RFP recently and took a different approach to answering it with a little more compassion and respect for the process!
